National JLD

The Junior Lawyers Division (JLD) of the Law Society is made up of sub groups according to location across the country. Each of those sub groups includes a National Representative who works with other National Representatives to convey the work of their sub group. One of the main responsibilities of the National Representative is to attend quarterly meetings (usually held at the Law Society) to hear updates on the JLD.

We attended one of the quarterly meetings and can update our members as follows:

  1. We spoke about the SRA looking to make some changes to what the new Solicitors Qualification Exam (SQE) will look this. These changes are being proposed to the Board of the SRA in June. It was agreed that the JLD Executive would write to the SRA and summarise our thoughts as discussed at the meeting. This letter will be posted on the JLD website for you to see.
  2. We heard Dr Nicola Nicholls’ proposals regarding the Law Society governance review. The proposals will be considered at the next Law Society Council meeting.
  3. There are the following upcoming events:
    1. Law Society Excellence Awards 2016: Junior Lawyer of the Year. Deadline for nominations is Friday 27 May. Details can be found here.
